Head of Centre: prof. Tomáš Markvart, Ph.D.

Joint appointment at the Czech Technical University in Prague and at the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, University of Southampton.

Tom Markvart obtained BSc and PhD in Mathematical Physics from the University of Birmingham in 1974 and 1975, respectively. He came to Southampton in 1977 as a Research Fellow in the Department of Mathematics and later Engineering Materials. After brief periods at ONERA/CERT in Toulouse and Instituto de Energia Solar at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid he returned to Southampton as Head of Solar Energy Centre. In 1994, he was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering/EPSRC Clean Technology Fellowship, becoming Reader in 2002 and Professor of Energy Conversion in 2009. Read more...

Amalraj Peter Amalathas received his BSc(Hons) in Physics from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka in 2011 and PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 2017.

His current research interests include the deposition and characterization of selective contacts for Silicon heterojunction solar cells and fabrication, characterization, and understanding of interfaces based on halide perovskite solar cells.

Martin Čeněk is an authorized architect of the Czech Chamber of Architects and a registered architect of the British ARB, independently practicing architect, assistant professor of design studio at CTU in Prague FA and researcher focusing on sustainable architecture. He graduated in master's and doctoral studies at CTU in Prague FA, worked as an architect in GAP architetti asssociati and Archea associati in Rome in 2006–2008. Since 2008 he has his own architectural practice in Prague. In his projects, he puts emphasis on simple, logical and clear spatial and functional solutions, overall design efficiency and sustainability as well as low energy consumtion. In 2011–2013 he was the chief architect of the CTU in Prague team at the Solar Decathlon 2013 international university competition.

Dr. Diego López Carballeira - WP1

Diego López Carballeira received his B. Sc. in Chemistry in 2012 from the university of Vigo (Uvigo). At the same university, under the supervision of Prof. Marcos Mandado Alonso and Prof. Ignacio Pérez Juste, he obtained his M.Sc (2014) on Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modeling focusing on the theoretical study of the mechanisms involved on SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) adsorbed on bidimensional carbon surfaces.

From 2014 to 2018 he coursed his PhD at POLYMAT, Basque Centre for Macromolecular Design and Engineering supervised by Dr. Fernando Ruipérez and Prof. Aurelio Mateo-Alonso. His research was focused in the computational study of organic systems relevant in Materials Science, such as organic diradicals, with applications in optical devices and metal-free batteries.
